Thursday May 24

I woke up with the sunrise and went out to the porch to finish watching it rise with Jon. What a beautiful start to our trip.

I had been working out a lot for the past six months in anticipation of the wedding. So for a last final effort, I went for a run along the beach. Let me tell you, it was already toasty by 8:30 am. I did a good 30 minutes and even passed by Louis and Ki-Wing eating breakfast at their hotel/yoga studio/restaurant, Elements of the Island. Then I made the 9:00 yoga class at Na Balam, taught by none other than our wedding officiant, Sabina Tamm. By that point I had totally chilled out.

I ate some quick breakfast at the hotel’s beachfront café before meeting with all the wedding staff. After a mix up about the location and quick taxi ride across the island, we went over the ceremony, flowers, set up, food, and drinks. Somehow the only photo we have from this visit is this awesome iguana who was hanging out nearby.

After the meeting Juliette, our wedding planner joined my mom, my sister Hilary and I downtown for some shopping to put together the welcome bags.

Back at in my Mom’s room at Cabanas Maria del Mar, we assembled the welcome bags. Hilary had made amazing welcome packets. Mom had brought these super cute paper beach bags, and we filled them with sunscreen, water, snacks, lotion, and local information. Hilary served as the chauffer and sometimes translator for the afternoon as we went in the golf cart all around Playa Norte delivering the bags.

By Thursday evening, most of the family had arrived and we had a big dinner at Zazil-Ha, the restaurant at Na Balam. (I think a lot of these names are Mayan, because Isla Mujeres is part of the Mayan Riviera, a historically Mayan part of Mexico) During dinner Marilyn and Tom arrived to the island, along with Mia, Gregory, and Lily, so the group was complete.
