Florida- Day 1

I couldn’t have been more relaxed when I woke up. I slept like a rock and gradually woke up to sounds of the ocean. It was so nice out that I couldn’t help but go for a quick 15 minute walk along the ocean (I now realize that I’ve got to start taking pictures of this stuff to punctuate this text). Watching the crabs scuttle around, the birds fly. Feeling the sand fall away under my feet- the experience was totally beatific.

I followed this with a shower, and then a nice breakfast of coffee, some soysage and eggs. Everyone straggled in to the kitchen slowly and we had a nice long talk about multiple subjects, after which we headed to the ocean.. It was pretty magnificent. We saw crabs scurrying around our feet, several large stingrays and many little fish. The small fish ignored me, but for some reason seemed interested in feasting on shana’s heels.

We all spent about 45 minutes in the ocean followed by an hour in the pool. At this point I decided to venture into town to check on the hours of café con leche (a small coffee shop owned by a really cool Brazilian woman). It was closed but I determined the hours of operation. I stopped in to a café (aptly named café – Fresh seafoods, salads etc) lured by the advertised special- A soft shell crab taco. Interesting combination.

I’m now 3/4th’s of the way done with the thing- a florida-mex concoction I guess. It’s essentially two soft shell crabs on a flour tortilla with a lot of lettuce tomatoes and cheese and a little bit of mayo. Really it’s more like a soft shell crab salad, and the thing I’m liking about it is that the crab isn’t fried- Or if it’s fried it isn’t really breaded. So you get a really nicely cooked soft shell crab on top of like a tasty salad. Mm.

As I post this, I’m leeching off of the bandwith of the closed coffeeshop . .
