Downtown Apalatchicola

Time flies- In the three days since the last entry I have,

-Continued swimming in the ocean and playing tennis.

-Gotten engaged (What better place to do this than on the beach, with the sunrise in the backround. A good portion of yesterday was consumed with engagement related festivities.)

-Eaten island pizza (Surprisingly good).

Every year the drive through Apalachicola reveals a startling persistence of character, with the small town looking as it must have looked 30 years ago. It’s true that there are some new shops here and there, but there are still a host of rickety old shacks, old printing presses and real estate that has clearly had a long life. .

Having always been drawn to buildings that have been slowly falling apart for some time, I went in this year to take some photographs of the town center, and buildings on the periphery.

I started with the bookstore- I visit here every year, and try to find some fiction concerning old florida to read while on SGI. .

Like many of the buildings in Apalalatch, this building has a cat (probably several, actually)

Many of the buildings are overgrown with weeds and other greenery, giving one the impression that they've been part of the environment for so long that they're just growing there. .
