Toronto, Day 3

This morning started at Cora's cafe, famous for breakfasts. They had nummy fruit.

Then Jon and I walked down Queen Street West, a funky, bustling shopping district. Jon stopped in at the comic shops and music shops. I stopped in at the clothes stores. And we both loved the bookstore.

Then we stopped to eat at The Rivoli, which had great food out on the sidewalk patio, and also has shows on the stage in the back in the evenings.

Jon went home for a nap, and I headed down to Harbourfronte Market. I walked down to the Lake Ontario shore. There were sailboats and yachts, an outdoor flea market, free live music performances and more. I saw a rapper, a singer they kept introducing as a "Motown recording artist," an amazing one man band singing "Heart of Gold," and a lousy puppeteer. There was a little pond with toy sailboats nearby.

Then I saw this crazy Ferris wheel that you drive your car into and then it spins your car up in the air.

After that it was home for a quick nap before I headed out to the Bad Dog Theatre to see the Toronto Theatresports show. As I walked up to the theatre I noticed an awkward, overweight girl handing out flyers on the street to promote the show. I thought, "Oh that's sad. They sent the clinger-on-girl to do the preshow dirty work. Then when I went in to the show, I realized not only was she the host, but the director and one of the most experienced players. The whole place just oozed desperation. The space was cheap and unfinished, with stacking chairs on the floor for seats and a mismatched set. For some reason, they put a bench in front of the onstage entrance, so everyone that comes on stage kindof stumbles, squeezes, and slides into the space. The players were all awkward and trying too hard. It was a big disappointment. I didn't stick around for the late night longform.

So there's no good improv in Toronto... that means it's easy pickens, especially for a well trained Texas girl... never misunderestimate someone from Texas, that's what I say...
