Montreal, Day 2

Jon noticed right away when I started speaking with a Montral accent.

I'd been studying my French before arriving, but I'm too chicken to use it. So instead I've been speaking English with a French accent, not really on purpose, it just sort of, you know, happened.

Today, we walked around the old city, the river front park, and had lunch at this cool triple deck outdoor cafe.

In the afternoon, I used took a self guided walking tour of some neighborhoods: the Latin Quarter, The Gay Village, Plateau Mont-Royal, and more. It was gorgeous. Tree lined streets, townhouses, local cafes and boutiques. Although Montreal isn't as pristine as I thought it would be. Lots of homelessness, graffiti, and funky smells along with the great city life.

In the evening, we saw The Imponderables, a sketch comedy group from Toronto, named best of the Fringe fest in Montreal. They were wonderful. Every moment of the show was tight, rehearsed, and energized. Most sketches didn't last over 30 seconds. Between sketches they tossed set and costume pieces around and danced to upbeat music. My favorite sketches: the Geoffrey's Toys R Us Sketch, The Incommodious Day Sketch, and The Things Got a Little Bit Killed Sketch. The opening group was Never Surrender, Montreal's premier lip synch band. They played air instruments and sang along to top cheezy hits with tremendous intensity. Their main moves were singing back to back and giving rock n roll kicks for emphasis.
