July 12 – 14 Amsterdam

As end of the trip fatigue set in, I didn’t keep a daily blog, so here is a 6 month later recap of what I remember of Amsterdam in no particular order.

We went to see a show at Boom Chicago. They had a great space, with really nice tech-lights, sound, video, music, etc and some decent food. Their sketches were really good and their improv pretty standard short form stuff. No women, lots of singing. But with a more international bent.

We saw Yankee Come back. Here's the video trailer for the show, but none of those cast members were in the one we saw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwxcrYjPcU0

We did a lovely bicycle tour around town and went to the beautiful Volkspark. We saw the tulip shops, even though the real tulips weren't in season.

We went to the Anne Frank museum, of course. It was really well done. I’ve become a big fan of museums of smaller/specific topics. You really felt like you got a full story on Anne Frank, plus a good sense of how her story connects to the present day.

We went on a boat tour along the canals of the city. We strolled around town, ate some of the favorite local cuisine, Pancakes.

We had some great food: Indian food, American style burger and fries, traditional Dutch cuisine, and yummy sweets.

I liked Amsterdam way more than I anticipated. It was such a laid back city. On a human scale, very walkable and bikable. I’m excited to return in January for the Improv Festival.
